I’m a big fat lazy bum

Posted: September 15, 2009 in Uncategorized

The very word structure scares us. Why do you think that the Express corporation changed the name of their Structure Store to Express For Men? The change probably had nothing to do with those sweet multi-colored sweater vests.

We don’t even like to think of the word structure because we think of long tedious hours pouring over the arduous task of actually organizing our business or ministry. Isn’t it funny how the vast majority of organizations are not organized at all. Most of this is due to the fact that we don’t like to plan things out like we should.

Someone said, “plan your work and then work your plan.” That’s a ton easier said than done. It’s much less complicated to move our business or organization ahead one day at a time and take things as they come than go through all the rigors of goal setting and organization. The problem with this mode of leadership is that we inevitably run in crisis mode the majority of the time, frantically hopping from one explosion to the next.

The number one problem that I often encounter on the road is this, “Well, Jeremy, I’m just not an organized person.” If that is your mantra, then say this out-loud, “I’m not organized, I’m just lazy.” We organize our outfits each day, although some of us could use some help in the color department…

A video my friend Phil Moody and I made a few years back using a crash test dummy toy from Wal-Mart. It’s awesome.

Customer care is the number 1 problem that no one is dealing with. 1 person has a sphere of influence of 30 but add youtube to the mix and it could be millions. If you are in any kind of ministry, business, or industry get it together before something like this happens.

The rest of the story courtesy of the Los Angeles Times.

Los Angeles – This just in on the case of United Airlines, a busted guitar and a wicked YouTube song: While Dave Carroll, aggrieved customer and wicked songwriter, was playing a gig Tuesday night in Picou, Nova Scotia, his July 6 video, “United Breaks Guitars,” was passing 100,000 views and United airlines was laying plans to make nice. But there’s no happy ending just yet.

“They have made contact with him,” said Carroll’s wife, Jill, on Wednesday morning. “We’re expecting to receive further details by the end of business today.” By 11 a.m. Pacific time, the video had racked up more than 137,000 YouTube views and prompted 1,265 comments, few of which are likely to end up in the airline’s next report to stockholders.

Dave Carroll, buried in interview requests, was unavailable, but Jill Carroll described the conversation with United as “amicable” yet inconclusive. As for the public response to her husband’s video, “we’re speechless.”

Carroll posted his video — which features a country-western arrangement, layered harmonies and, for unclear reasons, three sombreros — after he couldn’t get United to take responsibility for damage to his guitar allegedly inflicted during a flight last year. After months of getting nowhere in efforts to get compensated, Carroll crafted a retribution campaign featuring a sequential release of three songs.

Beyond the first song, which went up on the Web on July 6, Carroll has written and recorded a second song, but hasn’t made a video yet. As for the third song, Jill Carroll quoted her husband:

“They have a golden opportunity to influence the outcome.”

On Tuesday night, United spokeswoman Robin Urbanski declared that “this has struck a chord with us, and we’ve contacted him directly to make it right.”

What do Geysers, Dogs, and the band Journey all have in common? The word Faithful.

I was laboriously plowing through 1 Chronicles today and right smack dab in the middle of all of the begets, bequeaths, and descendants in the miles of genealogical records of those books I found this little gem.

1 Chronicles 5:24-26

24 These were the leaders of their clans: Epher, Ishi, Eliel, Azriel, Jeremiah, Hodaviah, and Jahdiel. These men had a great reputation as mighty warriors and leaders of their clans.

25 But these tribes were unfaithful to the God of their ancestors. They worshiped the gods of the nations that God had destroyed. 26 So the God of Israel caused King Pul of Assyria to invade the land and take away the people of Reuben, Gad, and the half-tribe of Manasseh as captives. The Assyrians exiled them to Halah, Habor, Hara, and the Gozan River, where they remain to this day.

It’s not cool when God jumps on the side of your enemy and wars against you. I thought it was pretty interesting that these guys had great reputations, they were mighty warriors, and great leaders but none of that mattered. God counts faithfulness pretty high on his list.

For some reason they just couldn’t get over the desire to have things that God had already given them victory over.

I wonder what is in my life that I have placed in front of him? What do I keep running back to?

Talent, ability, reputation, strength, skill and leadership are all great qualities but it’s faithfulness that brings favor.

God help me today to be a faithful man.

Marty McFly Shoes!

Posted: July 8, 2009 in Uncategorized

I found these sweet concept shoes which feature an integrated CD-ROM, speakers, volume control knob and yes, velcro tops! Yeah, they probably wouldn’t work but this is definitely something Marty McFly would’ve sported in Back To The Future.
